About me

I started out as an actor. When I was at drama school I had 4 lots of photos done before I got a good headshot.  The first set just didn’t look like me and were dull.  The second set were pretty and dull.  The third set way too glamorous for my casting.  Finally with the fourth attempt I got a headshot that was full of life, looked like me and somehow told people about the personality of the person in the photograph.

Bizarrely it was also more attractive, whilst less pretty, because it was real and had life, authenticity, humour, warmth that the others hadn’t just had. I started taking head shots a few years later when I realised that it was not just me who struggled with head shots and the process of having them done.  I decided to create a way of photographing actors that worked with their strengths rather than berating them for not being models.

  • I take time.
  • We work strategically.
  • We talk about how you see yourself and what your casting is.
  • What sort of things do you think you should be being seen for?
  • What HAVE you been being seen for?
  • What do your current pics say/do?
  • Does that work or not?

However lovely a headshot is, it must work.  When ready we go to the studio (same location) and you can do your make up, we go through your clothes and start to take pictures.  It’s a bit like rehearsals – most of us wouldn’t want the general public to see us what we are doing in the first week.  Photos are like that so after a  while we look at what we have done so far and delete a lot.

  • Are we on track?
  • Are they starting to work?
  • What do we need to do differently to get the message across that we want to.

I can’t tell you that I take a specific number of images because I don’t – everyone is different.  I can tell you that I will work you very hard to try and get the best possible shot of you that will help people to see you and cast you as you believe they should.   It’s a very exciting process watching people transform in front of my lens through an inner confidence and understanding that has nothing to do with clever lighting or anything external.  It’s rather magical and a great privilege to witness and photograph.

I love it!
